To receive official complaints, there will be a next step to submit a notarized statement. An email will be sent to the complainant's email address with the appropriate form for notarization after submission and review of this information by the Investigations Division of the West Virginia Secretary of State's Office.

W.Va. Code § 3-1-50(a)(3) requires complaints to be in writing, notarized and signed and sworn by the person filing the complaint.

W.Va. Code § 3-8-8(i) strictly prohibits the WV SOS Office from disclosing information of any complaint, investigation, or report provided to the office.
